Pterygium is a growth of pink, fleshy tissue on the conjunctiva (clear tissue covering the white part of the eye) that can extend onto the cornea (clear front surface of the eye). It is often caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight and wind.
Redness and irritation.
Grittiness or feeling like there's something in the eye.
Blurred or distorted vision if it reaches the cornea.
Dryness and discomfort.
In some cases, no symptoms at all.
